Introducing the Infrascanner


Infrascanner is a portable, handheld screening device, that uses near infra-red technology to detect intercranial hematoma in patients. The product is developed in the USA and is FDA and CE certified, and currently used in a large variety of applications across the world.

Head injuries are a common occurrence in today's society. They can happen at home, on a construction site, on a sports field, and in a car accident. In many circumstances the early detection of head trauma can make the difference between life and death.

Often by the time a patient is diagnosed, the haematoma caused by the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) can cause irreversible damage. Medical experts warn that TBI should be detected at most within 4 hours of the sustained trauma. 

Until recently, inter-cranial bleeding has been difficult to detect without the usage of costly equipment such as CT or MRI scanners. Today a team of scientists in the USA have developed the world's most advanced hand held screening device for haematomas. 

Near Infrared (NIR) Technology in Infrascanner


The basic method for intracranial haematomas detection with NIR spectroscopy is based on the differential light absorption associated with the injured versus the non-injured parts of brain.

The Infrascanner compares the left and right sides of the brain in four different areas. The NIRS sensor is placed successively in the left and right frontal, temporal, parietal, and occipital areas of the head and the absorbance of light at selected wavelengths is recorded.

  • Patient measurement is completed within 2-3 minutes

  • Detects haematomas greater than 3.5 cc in volume

  • Detects haematomas up to 2.5 cm deep from the surface of the brain (or 3.5 cm from the skin surface)

  • Accuracy: In patients with Epidural, Subdural and intracerebral haematomas: Sensitivity = 88% / Specificity = 90.7%*
